Dave Calhoun named a new chief executive of Boeing's commercial airplanes division. In his Monday announcement that he'd be stepping down as CEO of Boeing, Dave Calhoun also named Stephanie Pope as the new head of its commercial airplanes division. She replaces Stan Deal as CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, which designs and builds planes such as the 777, 787 Dreamliner and the 737 family. She is deeply committed to our company, to our employees and to our shared future; and she is the perfect person to take on the leadership of our commercial airplanes business." WASHINGTON, Dec 20 (Reuters) - Boeing (BA.N) Commercial Airplanes told employees on Tuesday it was tapping its sales chief to oversee supply chain issues as part of a number of executive moves. Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stan Deal said in an email to employees seen by Reuters that Ihssane Mounir, senior vice president commercial sales and marketing, has been named senior vice president of global supply chain. Among other moves, Deal said Brad McMullen, vice president commercial sales North America, will succeed Mounir in his sales position while Kim Smith, vice president and general manager 747 and 767, was named vice president Boeing Global Services (BGS) Total Quality, a new role at Boeing. The move to strengthen industrial leadership comes after delays and cost overruns blighted a series of long-term projects for which Boeing is locked in to a fixed price. Chief Financial Officer Brian West said last month fixed-price defense contracts were being "knocked around" by supply chain problems, inflation and labor shortages. In 2006, incoming BCA chief Scott Carson appointed Jim Jamieson chief operating officer of the planemaking unit - a wide brief giving him effective oversight of jet manufacturing and development until his retirement about 18 months later. Those changes came just as Boeing was trying to juggle changes in manufacturing with the development of the Boeing 787, while still bearing the wounds of a 1997 production crisis. Airbus (AIR.PA) has long had a chief operating officer at its main planemaking arm, though in practice it is more than a divisional role as the defense and helicopter units slot in underneath.
